This fantastic image, shot in 1977, shows the Terrace 1st VIII rowing past Customs House, on Eagle Street. The waterfront bears some similarity to the present day, with a few buildings still identifiable, yet at the same time it underscores the tremendous change our city has undergone in this time.

The Terrace Rowing Shed was located at New Farm during this period – just around the bend, past the Story Bridge. Many rowers have vivid memories of those facilities and the steep incline down to the water. The Rowing program was relocated to Tennyson with the construction of the new Boat Shed in 1995.

This photo forms part of an incredible library of black and white images shot by a student of the era, Peter O’Halloran, which we will be publishing more of in the coming weeks. Thank you Peter!
